Every contribution taken through a Raise More donation page carries two fees: Stripe's processing fee and the Raise More application fee. Both are deducted from the contribution before it reaches your account, so nothing is invoiced to you separately. This article explains what each fee is and when extra costs apply.
Stripe processing fee
Stripe charges the connected account that receives the money. For US card payments the standard rate is:
2.9% + 30 cents per successful card charge.
An extra 1.5% when the donor pays with an international card.
An extra 1% when a currency conversion is needed.
Stripe sets these rates. Check Stripe’s current pricing and the pricing for your account. You can see the exact fee on each payment in the Payments card on the Transactions tab of the Payments page.
Raise More application fee
Raise More adds an application fee of 0.85% of the contribution amount. It is taken at the same time as the charge and needs no separate payment from you.
A worked example
A donor gives $100 with a US card:
Stripe processing fee: $2.90 plus $0.30, which is $3.20.
Raise More application fee: $0.85.
Net to your account: $95.95.
Fraud screening (Stripe Radar)
Stripe Radar screens every payment attempt on your donation page for fraud. Radar Lite is included at no extra charge for businesses on standard Stripe Payments pricing. Check your selected plan in your own Stripe Dashboard.
We recommend you stay on Radar Lite. It adds nothing to the cost of a contribution. It blocks high-risk card payments, prevents card testing, and sends fraud alerts, which covers what a campaign donation page needs. Every other Radar plan costs you money on every payment attempt.
Raise More does not set, display, or change your Radar plan, and the Payments page has no Radar controls. Any change happens in your own Stripe Dashboard. See How do I change my Stripe Radar plan?.
If you do upgrade, Stripe bills the paid plan to the same connected account that receives your contributions. The cost comes out of your Stripe balance, on top of the processing fee and our application fee. These are Stripe’s prices and we cannot reduce them.
What a paid Radar plan costs
Stripe sells each paid plan two ways. Pay as you go has no monthly charge:
Radar Standard: $0.05 per screened transaction.
Radar Plus: $0.07 per screened transaction.
Radar Pro: $0.09 per screened transaction, plus $0.005 per abuse event.
A monthly subscription costs a fixed amount that includes 200 screened transactions. Anything above that costs the same per-transaction rate. The entry tier of each plan is:
Radar Standard: $10 per month, then $0.05 each.
Radar Plus: $14 per month, then $0.07 each.
Radar Pro: $20 per month, including 400 abuse events, then $0.09 and $0.005 each.
Stripe sets higher monthly tiers for larger volumes, and asks you to contact its sales team above 10,000 screened transactions a month.
A screened transaction is any payment attempt Radar evaluates. Declined and blocked attempts count, not only successful donations. A page that attracts many failed attempts pays for each one.
The entry monthly tier costs the same as pay as you go at exactly 200 screened transactions, and more below that. A month with 80 payment attempts on Radar Standard costs $4.00 on pay as you go and $10.00 on the monthly plan. If you upgrade, pick pay as you go unless you want a fixed monthly bill.
Radar Lite is included with standard Stripe Payments pricing.
Dispute and chargeback costs
If a donor disputes a contribution with their bank, the disputed amount is held and fees apply:
$15 when the dispute is opened. This fee is not returned, even if you go on to win.
A further $15 if you choose to fight the dispute by submitting evidence. This one is returned to you if the dispute is decided in your favor.
An inquiry, which is a bank's request for information before a formal dispute, does not carry a fee. This also applies to fraud early warning received.
There is one rare exception worth knowing about. Visa and Mastercard run a separate compliance dispute process, used when a card network rule was allegedly broken rather than when a donor simply questions a charge. If you choose to fight one of these, the card network charges $500, which is returned if the dispute is decided in your favor. Almost no campaign will ever see one. If you do, contact support before you respond.
Which fees come back
Unless stated otherwise above, fees are non-refundable. Refunding a donor does not return the Stripe processing fee or the Raise More application fee on the original charge. Plan for that when you decide whether to issue a full refund.
FAQ
Does Raise More take a cut of the money itself?
Only the 0.85% application fee. Contributions are processed straight into your own Stripe account and paid out to your bank.
Do I get the fees back if I refund a donor?
No. The processing fee and the application fee on the original charge are not returned. The donor still receives the full amount you refund.
Where can I see the fee on a specific contribution?
Open www.raisemore.app/payments, open the Transactions tab, and find the payment in the Payments card. Each payment shows its fee. The fee also appears on the donation record in Raise More.
Are these fees ever different for my organization?
Stripe sets its own rates and can vary them by card type, country, and currency. If you think the rate on your account differs from what is described here, contact support and we will check it with you.
How likely is the $500 compliance dispute fee?
Very unlikely. Compliance disputes are a rare category raised over card network rules, not ordinary donor complaints. Standard chargebacks, which are the ones campaigns actually see, carry the $15 fees described above and never the $500 one.
Do I have to pay for Stripe Radar?
No, and we recommend that you do not. Radar Lite is included with standard Stripe Payments pricing. You pay only if you choose Radar Standard, Plus, or Pro yourself.
How do I check or change which Radar plan I am on?
Sign in to your own Stripe Dashboard and open Settings, then Radar. Raise More has no screen for this. See How do I change my Stripe Radar plan?.
Does Raise More take a share of the Radar fee?
No. Stripe sets the price and bills your connected account. Our 0.85% application fee does not change when you upgrade Radar.
For current plan details, see Stripe Radar pricing.
