What happens when someone submits my form?

Learn how responses reach your contacts and what supporters see next.

A submission to a published form is saved in Raise More and linked to a contact. To review it, open the form from the Forms page and select Submissions. Testing in the builder’s Preview does not save a real submission.

How a submission matches a contact

  • Exact match — the submitted email matches an existing contact.

  • Fuzzy match — there is no email match, but the normal contact-matching rules find a match using details such as name with ZIP code or phone.

  • Unmatched — no existing contact matches, so Raise More creates a new contact and links the submission to it. This does not mean the submission has no contact.

Fields mapped to contact details are used when matching and saving the contact. Custom-field answers are saved on the contact; Answer only fields stay with the submission. The builder’s Tags added to each person are also added to the submitting contact.

Contact opt-in

Every form includes a Keep me updated by email and text checkbox. It is checked by default, and the choice is saved with the submission. A checked choice applies opt-in to the submitted email and phone details. Leaving it unchecked does not unsubscribe an already subscribed contact.

Choose what supporters see next

In Edit, find After submit and choose What happens next:

  • Show a thank-you message — display the Thank-you message on the page.

  • Redirect to a web page — open the Redirect URL, which must use HTTPS.

  • Ask them to share — show your Share message, sharing buttons, and a Copy link button.

Save your changes. A petition also shows its signature count and, if set, progress toward its signature goal. The live count refreshes while the page is open.

If the same email submits the same form again while its earlier submission is active, Raise More does not add another submission. The existing response is kept.
